Blue Ridge Cabinet Connection's skilled artisan, Steve Wilkie, recently traded his exquisite cabinetry for a thrilling adventure in the untamed wilderness of Arches National Park. The catalyst for this expedition? A long-standing bucket list and a yearning for an escapade that would test him mentally and physically.

"I wanted an adventure in a place I've never been that would challenge me. A reality check, so to speak," said Wilkie, shedding light on his motivation for the trip.

Planning The Journey

Planning the journey was a crucial part of the adventure. Wilkie highlighted the importance of having a reliable team on board. After months of meticulous preparations, including organizing dates, arranging flights, physical training, and ensuring essential packing, he embarked on his adventure with a small team.

When asked about his preparations, Steve Wilkie admitted he hadn't quite managed to carve out enough time from his schedule for physical preparation. The challenge, however, didn't deter him. "I completed the trip, but it tested me to my limits," he confessed, demonstrating his unwavering resolve.

Western Spirit

The Western Spirit bike tours, located in Moab, Utah, provided the platform for this once-in-a-lifetime experience. Western Spirit's White Rim Trail is undeniably one of the most picturesque routes in the country and having explored it on more than 30 biking escapades, I can attest that it truly lives up to its celebrated status. In a rather humorous way, Wilkie likened his expedition to a rigorous "Special Forces Training Camp", as it entailed biking for 80 miles, hiking for 12 miles and roughing it out in primitive camping sites. Yet he would not change a thing and lauded the organization for their efficiency and caliber of guides.

When asked about the highlights of the journey, Wilkie painted a vibrant picture of the striking contrasts between North Carolina and Utah. The surprising beauty of the desert, the ever-changing scenery around every bend of the trail, and the vast expanse of mountains left him in awe. The guide's knowledge and attentiveness, along with the exceptional food, added to the richness of the experience, making it one for the books.

Steve Wilkie and His Resilience

Steve Wilkie's journey was not just a mere accomplishment of a goal, but rather a true testament of his determination, perseverance and remarkable adventurous nature.

"At this point in life, [it's] one of the best adventure/bucket list accomplishments I've ever done," he said, adding, "Having friends along with the ride gave it a special meaning to be cherished for life."

The journey provided a thrilling respite from his job at Blue Ridge Cabinet ConnectionThe adventure gave him an exhilarating break from his work at Blue Ridge Cabinet Connection and a profound understanding of the boundless opportunities for discovery and personal growth that existence has in store. It's still uncertain if Steve will opt for another electrifying trip and change his companions; nonetheless, it's evident that this escapade has indelibly marked his soul.
